James and John asked Jesus for glory, but Jesus spoke to them about the suffering they would have to endure. How have you experienced suffering as a Christian? What kind of faithful attitude do we need when facing unavoidable hardship?

The high positions James and John desired are given to those who submit to God’s sovereignty. In what ways does worldly leadership differ from Kingdom leadership? When you find yourself in an undesirable position, how can you trust and submit to God’s sovereignty?

Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many. What changes are needed in your thoughts or attitudes to live a life of service like Jesus? What is one specific thing you can do to serve in your home, workplace, or church?
