The problem of the Israelites was the loss of holiness resulting from practicing “abominations” of the Gentiles. What do you think you are compromising with or becoming desensitized to in your own life that could lead to a loss of holiness?

Ezra’s ministry of the Word was instrumental in leading the officials to spiritual awakening. What is the evidence that God’s holy Word is at work in your life? How should we approach the Word to desire holiness more deeply?

Ezra expressed extreme shame and sorrow by tearing his inner and outer garments and pulling out his hair and beard. Have you ever expressed such heartfelt mourning over your own sins or the sins of your community? If you recognize the seriousness of sin but true mourning is absent, what do you think might be the reason?

4. 에스라의 기도는 죄의 고백(6-7절, 10-12절)과 그럼에도 불구하고 베푸신 하나님의 은혜(8-9절, 13-15절)가 균형을 이룹니다. 이 기도의 두 가지 특징인 연대 의식(남을 탓하지 않고 자신을 포함)과 겸손(하나님의 긍휼을 전제하지 않음) 중, 내가 기도할 때 놓치기 쉽거나 더 훈련해야 하는 부분은 무엇입니까?
Ezra’s prayer is balanced, encompassing the confession of sin (vv. 6-7, 10-12) and God’s grace (vv. 8-9, 13-15). His prayer has two important characteristics: solidarity (including himself in the confession, not blaming others) and humility (not presuming upon God’s mercy). Which of these two characteristics do you find easy to miss or most in need of further training when you pray?
